Welcome to our favorite spot of all for the French Open...the now world famous Losers Lounge. This is where you'll find everyone drowning their miseries following all those Eurodirt upsets that seem commonplace during the French. Everyone's welcome to pull up a stool, share a story, have a cocktail, and exchange snarky comments about player fashions, ridiculous scorelines, unknown teenagers who chase favorites home and the like.

Losers Lounge Lingo - if you lose in one of the two games (mens or ladies) you are what we call here at TAT a "half cheeker". Once you've lost in both games you are fully cheeked. And if history is any indicator, we'll have some full cheekers here beginning Day 1. This game is a LOT harder than it looks.

Our head bartender Jessie will fix you up with some of the best cocktails to the left of the Left Bank (Banque?). Ask him for something creative, and I guarantee he (or one of his able-bodied assistants) will put a smile on your face.

And don't be surprised to see some of our nemeses favorite players, and friends of players stop by during the fortnight. Indeed, Katya Bondarenko is out of the tournament, so that gives her a lot more time to socialize. Pierre Yves Hardenne (a/k/a HFPY) has been known to swing by on occasion for shits and giggles (ours, not his). And if we are genuinely fortunate, everyone's favorite Frenchie, Tatiana Golovin might even be stopping in with a warm and friendly "bonjour" for all.

Can I reserve a spot in advance? I'd like to find a comfy seat before the first bandwagon crash takes the place over.

I'd like to find a comfy seat before the first bandwagon crash takes the place over.

French play begins 11:00 a.m. Paris Time on Sunday. I say we have a pool on what time the first bandwagon (has to be more than 20 people) crashes.

Don't we just need to see the order of play and check which 18-32 seed plays first?

When our bartender, Jessie shows up, I demand my seat on the end with my festive IV drip ready to roll. :cheesy:

And I'm already rocking our beloved Tati on my desktop in honor of the French! :cheesy:

Don't forget about the Jukebox from Hell.

This joint needs some cheesy EuroPop. First, something en français:

The problem with the Suicide Pools is that you're often punsihed for being right. I noticed a lot of people high on MJSM and figured they were all suckers, that there was no way she would be going deep (and I was right there.) Of course, my mistake was thinking this meant she was a good first day pick. Oh well, at least I have esteemed company in Jon D'Oh also picking her?

Not sure the 'z' in 'Lopez' is superfluous... In any case, 'Lope' got me (and my dear wife - against our policy of picking the same players in early rounds) and I'm none too happy about it. Just popping my head in the bar right now - I have to return to work. I'll be back for a drink later. How large depends on Ivanovic.

Jessie,

Already, I am a full cheeker? Picked Anderson for the men's first round and Kvitova for the women today! Distraught. This was my first time playing. For Wimbledon I am going with only players in the top 62 for the first round, and no longer Schnyder.

I would like something hard hitting without giving me a hangover... c'est possible?

Wow, what a miserable FOSP - sevastova'd yesterday, lopez'd today - but the always entertaining loser's lounge has really cheered me up - thanks for the very funny comments everyone, really cheered me up, and to Jessie, of course, for all the drinks - a round of something Latvian and something Spanish for everyone here please. Thanks. Now, on to Wimbledon...
Something Latvian:

It's mostly additives and sugar that give you a hangover (other than dehydration), I think, so I'll give you something without too many additives and sugar :)

I was referring to Petschy, Motobass. When I referenced the new superfluous "z" rule in regard to Lukasz Kubot (who took me out on Sunday), Madame followed up with a reference to Petzschner's "z".

But maybe we need to re-examine all "z" players.

Although the 'z' in 'Lopez' is not, strictly speaking, superfluous, it appears to have that effect. Bears watching closely.

Jergen MelZer nailed me in the AOSP. So this is in keeping with the all z's are bad in 2010 theory (Jergen did perfectly well for me until this year, when all z's became bad.) And I thought Lopez was such a no-brainer. :hammerself: And I DIDN't pick Tamina Baszcinsky, going out with Petra Kvitova instead, so I will henceforth avoid even thinking about any match-ups with z's in their names for the rest of the year. Motoman, this is the last time we pick the same person, I promise. At least you're only single-cheeked. Wanna split a nice Roja and toast Ernests stinking up our contribution to the BOTB, too? (Maybe Gulbis should be Gulbiz...) How about two bottles? A case for the Lopes bandwagon? As a such a latecomer, maybe I should contribute coffee and aspirin instead. Your choice, Jessie. I'm so depressed. All this and only on DAY TWO!!!

Whats up Jessie? Since I was one of the "geniuses" who thought that a clay guy (Lapentti) could beat an American (Dent) who has an absolute abysmal record on the dirt, only to discover that he lost in straight sets, I would like to request something cheap (with the economy as is) to take the edge off. Im thinking a six pack or case of Old Milwaukee beer should do the trick. Being sent to the FOSP Losers Lounge courtesy of Taylor Dent really puts a whole new light on the Old Milwaukee slogan "It just doesnt get any better than this".

Splitting a Roja sounds quite nice. Too bad for Ernests. He looked really good in the tournaments leading up. And then a leg injury... That's not fair! and it sucks!

I'm out on both sides before the first round is even over, which has to be a first. It's my own fault, though, as I made two classic errors: choosing a no-name who had a good clay court season (Sevastova) and a low seed who's better on hardcourts (Lopez). Well, at least now I can watch and only stress about Venus.

Ecuador is in mourning. All citizens are trying to figure out how a serve-volleying american with Aussie roots beat one of their countrymen on clay. It seemed like a pretty safe pick......and I flove serve//volleyers.

Oh well....it's another fun reason to track all of the action while at the office! I still have the YCPJ pool going and the ladies to pick!

Cher Florent,

you have done so much for my TSIP-team, I am afraid to ask more of you. But you know who did nothing for the team? Nothing, zero, rien? Michael Russell. So, don't beat him just for me (though you are welcome to do that, too), but do it for yourself and all your team mates who actually won matches while he was busy taking up space. Rural PA (at least as of about 10 years ago) had the highest rates of alcohol abuse in the nation, according to data generated by what used to be called the National Household Survey on Drug Abuse. It never got any play in the news, though, because the government agency responsible for the survey didn't have enough people to mine the data and write the papers because it was low on their list of priorities. But I believe it's still gotta be true. There's nothing to do here but drink and father/conceive children... And of course, the two usually go hand in hand. LOL!

My Pick’s match got rescheduled for tomorrow. May I have something fun to drink? A heads up Jessie; you might wanna prepare a lot of extra pitchers, you are about to be flooded by angry customers who picked Zvonareva (If she wins we could use them to celebrate with them, if she loses…).

How about a Sherry Cobbler?

Ok so Monfils just give me a pass to join you guys. Who would have thought? On the other hand, I really like this guy Fognini - he put up a great fight, and deserved to win. The only problem is, i didn't pick him :cheesy:

It's kind of an odd request, but do you happen to have virgin pina colada? I need something to calm me down

Thank you so much Akgul (looks like) A-man-muradova for putting me here. That ends my 2010 SPs, and kind of feels like I got double cheeked twice in the Men's SP:). It was a risky play, but her 2-0 record against Scheepers seemed like the right side of the coin flip to go with. Oh well, off to Wimby! Bartender, anything British will be fine.

Mind if I join you? Akgul just joined Gulbis on my don't pick against or for list. As a matter of fact - they both took me out of my very first FOSP when Gulbis beat Henman and Akgul beat Vania. Bring me something tall to drink to remind me never to count on Akgul again.

Coming from South African lineage, I figured I'd pick Amanmuradova so that I would either stay alive in the suicide pool or have warm patriotic feelings. Turns out the suicide pool is more important, since I now can't help being bitter toward Scheepers.

Hopefully the feeling will pass by the time she plays Wozniak/Demmy...

I'll take the Lambrini if no one else wants it - I loves me some sweet alkyhol! In fact, I'll take the whole friggin' bottle. Especially when I WOULD have gone on in the game because I'd brilliantly picked Scheepers to win but Jie #*!#$ Zheng decided to crash and burn on me first.

Mon ami Jessie, l'addition s'il vous plaît.

Il est temps pour moi to take my leave, having picked très mal among les hommes et les femmes, and no longer having un cheval dans le race.

Votre hospitality est sans equal, et votre martini Bombay goes down trés facile, peut-être un bit too trés facile pour mon own good, if you ask moi!

How about one of the most expensive champagnes ever? :cheesy:
http://cdn.most-expensive.net/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/expensive-champagne-dom-perignon.jpg
A Dom Perignon White Gold Jeroboam
$40,000

During the same year, a limited edition bottle of Dom Perignon became the most expensive champagne in the world. Sold in three-liter bottles, the Dom Perignon White Gold Jeroboam was sold to commemorate the New Year. Much of its price, however, is surely due to the white gold bottle from which the expensive wine takes its name.

Well, I was out so fast in the women's I wasn't even in the mood to come in for a drink. But getting bounced this far into the men's tournament warrants a (part-celebratory)drink. How about a bowl of Count Chocula, with Bailey's poured over, and then a couple of dashes of Hot Sauce? No, no, no, that would be too disgusting.

But it's really hot up here, so a bottle of Spanish rose would be very nice.
