I apologize for not getting a post up prior to the R16. Here are the up-to-the-minute WTA rankings with those still alive in the draw marked with an asterisk:
1. Davenport, 4985*
2. Mauresmo, 4890
3. Sharapova, 4582*
4. S Williams, 4535
5. Dementieva, 3776*
6. Myskina, 3358
7. Kuznetosva, 3323*
8. Molik, 2630
9. V Williams, 2520
10. Capriati, 2234
11. Zvonareva, 2217
12. Petrova, 2162
13. Schnyder, 1802
14. Dechy, 1555*
Things to note:
1) Davenport cannot lose the #1 ranking this week, regardless of what happens here on out.
2) Whether or not Sharapova moves up to #2 after this week depends on how the draw unfolds. It's possible that she could win the title and still not move up (e.g., if Dechy beats Davenport and Sharapova beats Clijsters in the final). Just not enough bonus points. But if Sharapova wins the title and beats Davenport in the semis, she'll move up to #2. But she MUST win to have a chance to move up to #2. I'll keep you posted.
3) Dementieva cannot move past Serena Williams this week.
4) Kuznetsova can move up to #6 (passing Myskina), but that's it for this week. Even if she wins the title and beats the highest-ranked opponents possible, she cannot pass Dementieva at #5.
5) Mary Pierce has moved up to #25 for the time being and can move up to #22 by beating Sharapova in the next round.
6) Conchita Martinez currently sits at #31 and can move up to #27 by beating Clijsters.
7) Clijsters has moved back up to around #106. If she beats Martinez in the next round, that will put her up to about #83.
If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask.
