Your Day 12 Event is : Ladies' Bobsleigh
Your Day 12 Pick is due Feb. 24, 5:00 PM PST, 8:00 PM US Eastern Time

About the event: Olympic Women's Bobsleigh is a relatively new event in the sporting world, having just begun competition in the 1990's, and making its official Olympic debut at the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics. There is a World Cup Circuit that the top athletes compete in every year, but all of them are looking to peak for the Olympics that happen every four years.

The sport involves teams of two women making timed runs in a sled down a narrow, icy and twisting track. They begin by running with the sled for the first 50 meters to gain speed (which can eventually go beyond 150 km/h) and then hop in the back of the sled and try to be as aerodynamic as possible in order to achieve maximum speed. This is important because times are measured to the .001 of a second and that can often be the difference between finishing on the podium or not.

Among the participants (NOTE: because nations have multiple teams in bobsleigh, participants are listed by Steerer's name):

Sabina Hafner SUI
Kaillie Humphries CAN
Sandra Kiriasis GER
Cathleen Martini GER
Nicola Minichiello GBR
Erin Pac USA
Shauna Rohbock USA
Claudia Schraam GER
Helen Upperton CAN

Oohh, Cathleen Martini. That's a hard one for me to pass up. But I have to go with a Canadian whenever they're a legitimate medal hope.

Whoops. I clearly have no idea how this event works or what I'm doing. Please change it to 2nd place Pac for me, though I can see now and bet that Humphries will win.

Humphries for me.

First place by 0.13 sec after the first two runs. There are two more remaining runs today. I guess all 4 are added together like the first two "heats", since "heat 4" is listed as awarding medals?

Well, definitely glad I didn't pick Martini, as it appears she had one or two too many. (Everyone was okay!)
