Normally I see more and more participants every year with TAT SPs but the AO seems lesser this year.

Anyhow, Fish is totally going to gut me today. I normally walk into the men's TAT SPs thinking I won't last very long but it still hurts to actually lose! I hope he picks it up when play starts again :X

By the way, I started to like Almagro because of Youzhny. I felt so bad for Almagro when he was gaining the momentum in their match in Miami and then Youzhny hit himself with his racquet, and the long medical time-out stopped that momentum. Poor Almagro ended up losing. I know, it was close, and it was not intentional, but I felt bad.

They would have been lucky.

It's called the "guaranteed winner rule". You cannot pick a guaranteed winner. Under that hypothetical, at the time they picked Kubot, he was not a guaranteed winner. They advance.

It's about the only fair way to deal with an odd situation like that.

It's a pretty odd day when 71 advance because of a retirement, 41 are kicked due to a player never taking the court, and 2 more are lost because of another retirement.

Has it happen before ?

Not in suicide pool memory. We have had the withdrawal thing several times. But, 3 out of 8 matches influenced by withdrawal/retirement?

Oh Youzhny! Should have known better than to trust a guy who smashed his head open... :(

Till the French Open then... and kudos to the organisers of the SP! Thanks for making each Grand Slam more interesting & exciting!

With about 80 minutes left to close for day 7, and 7 left to choose, Murray and Roddick are neck-and-neck for top pick of the day.

Speak for yourself. I was nervous at 3-all in the first-set breaker. :)

Murray's win was the best single day pick. I was tempted to take him and just take my chances on a tougher pick in the next round.

I hadn't wrapped my head around who I'd pick between Murray and Nadal so I decided to make it tougher now. Maybe I'll kick myself for it.

Choosing Murray indicates a belief that Nadal will likely win over him in the next round.

We'll see.

It's always fun to get to this point in a suicide pool. You start weighing all your options and coming up with a plan. You think you have the right strategy, and that you are so clever. It's exciting, even when it blows up in your face...and it often does.

The worst is when you take the "safe" pick and they lose.

This is a very fun time to play in the pool. If you make it past the next couple of picks, you're pretty much locked into your last few picks.

I think all 81 have a pretty good shot of getting through tonight. But then it should get very interesting.....

With how hot Koyla's been I'm *almost* surprised only one took Fed today.

What if Verdasco pulls the upset? What if Davydenko wins, but doesn't look as strong today? What if Federer looks phenomenal? I decided it was best to keep my options open.

Like I said...almost surprised. He has won the last two against him, so I was expecting a few more to go with Fed. Actually, to tell the truth I'm surprised so many went with Tsonga instead of Fed or Davydenko!

I think because we suppose the Federer/Davydenko winner if they do meet, has better shot of winning the semi.

Leaving both free so that match can go either way...not a bad strategy, esp. with Tsonga up 2 sets.

Koyla definitely made me sweat tonight!
