View Full Version : Prediction Challenge: Week of 011110

Everyone, I wanted to let you know about a minor tweak we need to make in our new process for posting the Prediction Challenge Web forms.

The qualifiers presented some unanticipated problems this week. So beginning with the week of 011110, we will not be publishing the brackets until the qualifiers have been placed in the draw. If this presents a problem for you because of travel plans or whatever, let me know and we'll try to work out a solution.

So we'll post this week's brackets as soon as we possibly can after the qualifiers have been placed in the respective draws.

Also, please keep in mind that this week's deadlines may be earlier than usual because it's the week before a major and there were Sunday starts for main draw play. We'll post the deadline for each event as soon as it is available.

Thanks for your flexibility and understanding!

This contest is temporarily closed to new participants.

We have four events to predict this week--Sydney and Auckland for the ATP, and Sydney and Hobart for the WTA.

Per the opening post in this thread, we will post the brackets as soon as we can after the qualifiers have been placed (e.g., they're still playing qualifying matches in ATPAUCKLAND, so that won't be ready until Tuesday morning). We'll also update the brackets as quickly as possible prior to the deadlines. In addition, we will post the deadlines associated with each event as soon as they are available.

If you have any questions or problems, please let us know via the TATi Technical Assistance Center (http://www.talkabouttennis.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15913).

And you actually found Syndey easier??? I was completely baffled by both of them! Plus, you don't know if those who played last week and are playing this week are at any given point going to say, "Well, I feel good... I've had enough!" And bail on the event.

I really hate the week before a major. Hate. Hate. Hate. It.

Ok now that I check Cornet and Zheng are in same quarter...but still. Agree that it's a crapshoot, but WTA crapshoots are where I do best (especially ones without top 20 players! Or top 40 is even better.)

I never had to chance to read, but can we edit picks with this new system? And if so. How?

Also am I the only one that gets just one email with my picks? Is that how it should be done? I'll admit I've never taken the chance to read the email so I have no clue if each event is included.

You cannot edit, but you can resubmit your picks. Just fill out the bracket again and resubmit with your TAT username and a valid email address (no msn, and no.... crap, I can't remember... either yahoo or hotmail I think... can't find the specifics anywhere... stay tuned).

You should get a confirmation email for each tournament for which you submit predictions. If you do not, something is wrong. But we can sort it out. For example, for tomorrow's two ATP events, you should receive two confirmation emails, assuming your username is accurate entered and you provide a valid email address.

Also, if you don't receive all of your confirmations, check your junk mail folder. Adding predictions@talkabouttennis.com to your contact list should help prevent this. (But I actually prefer that my TAT prediction emails land in my junk folder. It's easier to separate from the nutcases at the office.)

Thanks Dry. I'll resubmit if I have time later or tomorrow before SOP. I guess I needed to ask because today for the first time I've received for both ATP tournaments. Like I said before I was only receiving one and I did check my junk etc like you mentioned. Maybe I might have been messing up on my email addy, I'm kinda slow so that's to be expected.

Thanks again

The down under deadlines for me are 4:00 pm the day before the round of 16 play. I have to predict before 7:45 am that day when I leave for work since I can't be sure I'll be able to get home for lunch and won't get home from work until after 5:00 pm.

Not easy and I've already missed Hopman Cup and WTA Brisbane.

Monfils has withdrawn from Syndey and will be replaced by Gimeno-Traver.

We will provide an updated bracket as soon as I figure out how to do it. LOL!

If you've already submitted your Syndey picks and had Monfils winning any matches, you will have to resubmit your picks using the new bracket in order to receive points.

I've played two years and in both I've done better in the WTA.

Yeah, but I don't watch much WTA tennis, and barely know the players besides the top 10 :o

Damn it, not even avatar power helps. The good thing is Serena can lose now, since I'm getting a negative score anyway.

ugh, Robredo

Only the women can save the week.

One point from my four ATP finalists. Awesome! Wonder if I'll hit double digits...for both tournaments :)

Didin't someone have Gasquet winning? And there are probably some that at least took Lleyton as a finalist.

I took Gasquet! His draw was soft and I thought there was a decent chance that Wawrinka would say, "I've had enough preparation for Melbourne." Plus Lleyton was a bit in doubt.

It was still a pretty dumb pick, though. :o The chances of him closing the deal are pretty slim, but I'd love to see him do it.

You are picking Gasquet so I don't have to jinx him by choosing him. I am picking Kohlschreiber so Moose doesn't have to jinx him by choosing him. Now, Moose is going to have to pick ___________, so you don't have to jinx him or her by making the choice.

I've only got 3 ponies in the race at Sydney. I do, however, have Lleyton winning the whole kit 'n' kaboodle.

And I'm down to 1/2 my guys at Auckland.

I have none.

Dry, is it too late to add a 'lowest score ever in a tournament' bonus?

I picked him too, but more out of a process of elimination, although I have him over Hewitt. It should compensate for only scoring 4 points in Auckland, where I had Ferrer and Ferrerro in the final :o

About 4 years ago or so, I got 1 point for an event... The only thing that saved me was Ivan Ljubicic, who was the last match up that day and managed to win. Beat that.

I had the same final in Auckland. I'm still trying to stop the bleeding. :o

No, I can't, definitely. I have a grand total of 10 points (and have no players left) for ATP this week :cheesy:

The only possible savior for me in the ATP is Phillip. (Same first name as me, except that I spell it the correct way, with one "L" :) )

I still have my girl Shahar, and Elena

but I am also part of the ATP massacre this week

Huzzah! Me too. I used to love getting cards with "Phill" written on them.

As for my ATP, I am done, too.

I tried last year to get Perfect Loser bonus points for my zero in Hobart, but to no avail.

I've decided that ignorance is bliss this week. I'll just check the results when they come out. No sense ruining my mood any sooner than needed.

Actually, both the Gasquet/Benneateau and Baghdatis/Fish matches have the potential to be quite good and very entertaining! I'm going to try to stay awake for them, but that's gonna be tough.
