While we all shake off the disaster that was this year's French, please mark your calendars to come join us for our 5th annual Wimbledon Suicide Pool. Day 1 threadswill be open for selections sometime on Sunday June 21, with play beginning Monday June 22.

Shtexas will be returning to lead the mens game, and Beaujarkko will be heading up the womens side of things as we settle in at SW19 for two great weeks of pitfalls, upsets and unexpected disasters of every shape, color and size fun.

This year's Wimbledon Suicide Pool can be found HERE (http://www.talkabouttennis.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=150).

Made the quarters twice, now to make the semis. And hopefully not forget the start date of the tournament.....

Here's just hoping I won't crash out of the two SPs in the first 3 days :cheesy:

Some of us were out of both on Day 1 blush

Yup! So we are in the best position - we are guaranteed not to do worse!

As long as I avoid the last name Pavlyuchenkova this time I might be ok

Is it just common knowledge or is there an actual list of players we could do with avoiding in the SPs?

French players.

Actually, I'm curious if anyone has compiled a list over the years.

There is no such list nor there needs to be. In my opinion the key for lasting long (need lot of luck to win outright) is not taking too many risks early on (or too few, but that's rare).

Oh, Yoda, I do disagree, I did beat the draw in my second SP and since I don't think I've gone past first round.:o

Thanks everyone! I could probably read through the loser's lounge threads from the past. Where do I go to access them?

Follow this path:
Talk About Tennis Forums > CONTESTS > Contest Archives > Suicide Pools
http://www.talkabouttennis.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=41

and then select the SP you want to check. You'll find the losers lounge there.

I think there might be maybe 5 of us that have been playing since our very first TAT SP (Australian 2005), and we've reached the point where we now avoid everyone.

I was about to say that, by now, one can just take the entry list for the tournament, make two copies and label one 'do not pick' and the other 'do not pick against'

Going to try my first - hope the Padawan's luck is with me!

Is this a good general rule? "go for the one who you think is going to lose next round"

AND- as those of us who have played these damned Pools over and over again- the good news is, this strategy works out just PERFECTLY! EVERY SINGLE TIME!!!! :cheesy:

Yeah, but all to often they lose one round before. :lipsrsealed:

Strategy theory wise, it's flawless. Unfortunately, the players don't always get the memo

Glad to have you aboard for this go-round!

And then at least you can feel so smart about being right that you knew this player wasn't going to go deep. Won't get ya back in the pool of course.

Hot Suicide Pool tip as it relates to the men's pool!

If you're ever totally confused about which guys to pick on Days 1 & 2, all you need to do is take a look at the men on my YCWJ team. They're virtually guaranteed to win their first round matches! Keep this in mind for the U.S. Open!
