Everyone, Tog will soon be posting instructions for those who would like to participate in TAT's first NCAA Men's College Basketball Bracket Contest. It will involve going to a site where the bracket is offered, registering for the TAT group, and making your picks through the entire bracket. From there Tog will take care of the rest.

Looking forward to your participation! And stay tuned for Tog's instructions!

Ok I've decided to use ESPN for this contest. CBS looked better, but the group setup was very difficult so I decided against it.

Here are the instructions:

1. If you're not an ESPN member already, you'll need to register here (https://r.espn.go.com/members/register?registrationFormId=espn_tcmen09&appRedirect=http://games.espn.go.com/tcmen/frontpage&sourceName=header).
2. I think it might be necessary to fill out your bracket before joining the group, so to do so go here (http://games.espn.go.com/tcmen/frontpage).
3. To join the TAT group on there, go to the tournament challenge home page and click on My Groups and click create or join group. The group name is Talk About Tennis and the password is "tennisftw" (I know, I'm not very creative, same password for Streak for the Cash).
4. It's possible to enter more than one bracket in this challenge, but please only enter one into the TAT group.

ESPN should have everything else taken care of, but if it doesn't, you're welcome to ask questions here.

The deadline for this contest is Thursday at noon EST (unless ESPN cares about closing it when the play-in game starts, then it's 7:30 PM EST on Tuesday).

I'm in and my bracket isn't filled out yet.

Arizona should have stayed home instead of St. Mary's or Creighton especially playing a bad 3 weeks and won only 2 road games.

I agree wholeheartedly. When I saw that name pop up, I felt sick to my stomach. They really don't deserve it.

After their last three weeks, I was just as shocked as you are...until I looked at the competition for the final spot.

I love me some mid-major action as much as the next guy, but the resumes of St. Mary's and Creighton just don't match up. I think Schlabach from ESPN.com sums it up better than I could:

Arizona
Certainly, the Wildcats are the most surprising team in the 65-team field. I thought Arizona's 24-year streak of consecutive NCAA tournament appearances would end after USC won the Pac-10 tournament title and claimed the league's NCAA auto bid.

Arizona lost to Arizona State for the third time this season, 68-56, in the quarterfinals of the Pac-10 tournament. The Wildcats lost five of their last six games and went 2-9 in road games. But they played 16 games against RPI top-50 foes, winning six of them, and were 8-12 against the top 100.

Obviously, the NCAA selection committee rewarded Arizona for playing a very difficult schedule. And because Arizona beat teams such as Kansas, Washington, UCLA and USC, it's really hard to say there's no reason it shouldn't be in the field.

I know the wins against Washington, UCLA, and USC are the luxury of playing in a major conference and having plenty of opportunities to get those kind of wins, but throw in a non-conference body of work that includes wins over Kansas, Houston, San Diego State, and an unmentioned-by-Schlabach Gonzaga team (whom, it's important to note, St. Mary's couldn't beat in three tries), and it's really hard to argue that Creighton or St. Mary's deserves that spot.

Being a UM grad I am very excited about this and I hope you're right but I fear they may be overmatched by Clemson. If they shoot the 3 pointer well they can hang with anyone but I think just getting to the Big Dance makes this a successful step back to being a legitimate basketball program once again.

I'm seriously considering not doing it without the records of the teams posted.

Think the first games tip off around 1 tomorrow. I was just on the ESPN site to place my entry, but I didn't notice if they lock their brackets at a certain time (most of the forums that have brackets close them at either 12 or 1 I think).

I'm all registered. Moosevic. Go Louisville!

11 of 16 for the day/ Not bad, but not great. I moved up about 200,000 places in the world rankings though! (although that means I'm still not in the top 3.5 million.)

Coldsteppin2u (J. Hurd) is leading...dunno who that is...with 15/16 right. A bunch have 14. I'm second last in the group...but my PPR is still ok, as is everyone's thanks to no real big upsets yesterday.

Got UConn right too (only the top 4 had UConn...strange! no one else took them)

I have Villanova tonight and the next three have Pitt - so either I'll pad my lead nicely or drop to 4th.

ptmcmahon
03-28-2009, 06:34 PM
- What a game that was ... but Villanova were lucky they didn't blow it. What were they thinking on that pass with 10 seconds left? Simple pass, take the foul! Especially the way they were shooting.

- I REALLY should've done some money pools this year. I'm in the 99.88% percentile of the world now.

That was about as good a college game as I have seen in ages. Lots of lead changes, lots of unexpected turns. And when you thought one team was ready to take control, the momentum shifted.

Probably no chance at first - but I have Michigan State in title game, so if I get the rest right, I should move into the top couple hundred I would guess. How many spots get prizes? Maybe I should see if I put in real contact info :)

EDIT: Top ONE spot and a random get prizes. Doh! I am up to 1007th now though.

Up 54 more to 341st. Guessing those ahead of me mostly have UNC, so don't think I can move up too much. Still, this is crazy to think how well I did. I didn't follow much during the regular season, and remembered every article I read was about how great the Big East was. I only picked Michigan State because I read somewheres they were a good rebounding team and I figured that as good a reason as any to pick them!

The teams which have been still competing following your first weekend advance to the regional semifinals (the Sweet Sixteen) and finals (the Elite Eight), that are played over the second weekend of this tournament (again, the games are divided into Thursday/Saturday and Friday/Sunday). Four regional semi-final games are played Thursday and four are played Friday and boost the online sales (http://www.crazysales.com.au/) of team clothes. After Friday's games, 8 teams (the Elite Eight) remain. Saturday features two regional final games matching Thursday's winners and Sunday's two final games match Friday's winners. After the second weekend with the tournament, the four regional champions tend to be the "Final Four."
