7 of us have picked Na Li at some point.
8 of us have picked A Radwanska at some point.

The Na Li part is interesting, but the Radwanska part could be much more crucial since she's still in. Many are picking against her tomorrow, we'll see how that goes.

I tried a lot this SP to sort of tie together lose ends, by picking people to win who were playing people I had already used. It's worked so far...

Super impressive!

If he is able to hang on, he'd be the first one to win simultaneous pools not at the French!

A decent mix as we head into Day 8 play, with 4 different players chosen by what appears to be our 8 remaining players (pending confirmation of a no-pick):

3: Venus Williams
3: Amelie Mauresmo
1: Serena Williams
1: Dinara Safina

No head to head faceoffs today, but we do have every match covered by at least one pick.

Good luck to everyone.

Wow, I am pretty shocked myself too. I was always either made no pick for some day or busted out early in this thing. This must be some kind of a one time fluke.

You pretty much had to pick from Mauresmo-Pennetta if you wanted to beat the draw. Oh well. It's what I had to do.

Unless you had already used them both. :(

Oh well, the Maid took me out, but I was planning to beat the draw by going Venus (QF - top half)
Jankovic (SF - bottom half)
Safina (SF - top half)
Dementieva (RU)
Serena (W)

So if that's how the event turns out, I'll be really ripped at Marion.

Heck, co-winning the Wimbledon Men's SP was so big for me, I'll jump in the lake in victory if I can just make it to the Women's Finals here. Of course, for that to happen, Pennetta will have to beat Safina, so I'm not getting overly excited about my prospects.

Very easy recap for today's picks. With 6 remaining players in our game, we've got the picks divided this way:

5: Jelena Jankovic
1: Patty Schnyder

We could potentially have a winner at days end, if Patty beats Elena, and Sybille takes out Jelena tonight, so stay tuned!

Elena and Sybille winning would also end the game.

In that case there would be 6 winners? or no winner?

Excellent memory, Suliso. It was 29 in the 2007 French womens. We lost a day of the game to all the rain delays, so it became much easier for folks to beat the draw (especially with Justine saved by everyone to win the event).

Picks left by player:

Dementieva - 1
Jankovic - 0

Pennetta - 5
Safina - 4

Serena - 5
Venus - 1

As mentioned earlier in the thread...munchin is the only one who can beat the draw.

So far it looks like Thotckin may win if Pennetta wins tomorrow, with so far the others picking Safina. Thotchkin is the only one with Venus left, and thus will be in good shape if someone else takes Pennetta and Pennetta and Venus both wins.

With 5 contestants left in the game, everything is riding on the day's first womens' quarterfinal match. Four of our five remaining players stake everything on Dinara Safina, while 1 (Thotchkin) goes with Flavia Pennetta.

For the 2nd day in a row, our game could come to an end, and we'll have only one winner this go round, if the upset happens. Otherwise, 4 players will advance to the semi-finals from a pool that began with 268 people.

Congrats, folks. I wish I'd had Safina still active, but such was not the case. Hopefully, you'll all have a great next round although I think tonight's match will eliminate at least someone from beating the draw.

Go <fill in first name here> Williams!

Good game thotchkin :). I will have similar fate soon as I only have 1 available pick out of 4 semifinalists. But I don't care anymore, I will be cheering against my pick in semis anyway (if Serena even wins tonight's match).

Hey Munchin ... Remember what it was like to win your first medal? I've never won a medal and never even come close ... don't you think you could forget to pick tomorrow ... you'd make a girl real happy! (And two others happy as well ... just think of all the joy you'd bringing by one small omission ...)
