View Full Version : Day 8 (Mon) Womens USO Suicide Pool Pick

08-31-2008, 06:24 AM
Hello and welcome to day 8 of our 4th Annual US Open Suicide Pool. And Happy Labor Day, everybody. Don't eat too many hot dogs!

You will be making one pick EACH DAY of the Women’s event (NOT one each round), and once you use a player, you can never use them again. There is a “picks and results thread” posted so you can check the choices you have already made.

Post your Day 8 pick by replying IN THIS THREAD. Your pick must be in by the start of play in New York, rain or shine, that is Monday, September 1 31, 2008 at 11:00 AM New York time (east coast), 8:00 AM on the west coast. For those in Europe, London is five (5) hours later than the east coast. Don’t be late as we hate making those hard decisions, but we will. This thread will be locked at 11:00 AM EDT, so please don't wait until the last minute or you may find it locked when you hit "post".

If you change your mind after you make your pick, and before the deadline, please make a second post advising us of your change - PLEASE DO NOT make your change in your original post, as we often go through the posts before closing to begin the task of updating the picks and results, and we might miss a change if you edit your original pick.

Best of luck, and thank you for joining us!

Monday's schedule consists of 4 FOURTH ROUND MATCHES FROM THE TOP half of the women’s draw:

MAURESMO, Amelie FRA [32] v PENNETTA, Flavia ITA [16]
GROENEFELD, Anna-Lena GER (Q) v SAFINA, Dinara RUS [6]
WILLIAMS, Serena USA [4] v BREMOND, Severine FRA (W)

Wow, haven't been this far since French Open '07. I'm surprisedso many of our survivors are "regulars." We usually don't last long. Again, I feel nervous about this pick for a lot of reasons but I think I have to pick Venus Williams. :freekingout:

Whoever survives out of today's Srebotnik-Schnyder pickers should be in the driver's seat.

But that top half can take out people who can still beat the draw while leaving those who can't.

I wrote this at the French Open, but it still kinda makes sense, no? :cheesy:

That there are so few of us left is all I've got to hold onto at this point since I think I'm mathematically elimated from getting to the finals with a chance to win. But still, I will fight on to see how far I can get before heading to the Loser's Lounge to join the 250 Women's SP Players who have hopefully saved me a beer or two. So my Day 8 pick on the Women's side will be...

I have been hemming and hawing for a couple of hours now. I am SO tempted to pick Groenefeld. SO tempted.

Ah well.

Serena Williams.

With Serena and Dinara being no-noes if I want to preserve a possibility to beat the draw, it, well, looks rather tough
I do expect Radwanska to win, and feel really tempted to pick her. But still Amelie seems to be just a tiny little bit safer... And once again "stick to the veterans" was my policy throughout this SP. And it payed off.
So, Amelie Mauresmo for me, please. That is - if I don't change my mind in the next hour :p
