Here we keep an alphabetical listing of all players, and their selections throughout the Suicide Pool. This is an important tool for you to use as the game progresses, so that you do not make any duplicate picks (once you have used a player, you cannot use them again).

Once you're red, you're dead! Please take a seat in the Loser's Lounge (but remember, if you are eliminated in one game, you can still play the other).

If I made a mistake in spelling, or with a pick, or if you cannot find your name, please send me a PM. We do all this by hand, and sometimes we make mistakes.

Here are our 268 participants in the 2008 US Open Suicide Pool!

While we wait for the fate of our last few Day 1 Players who have Jie Zheng still on Court, it's safe to say that Day 1 on the Womens Side once again proved quite a bit bloody, with over 20% of our players eliminated.

59 Players go out on the first day, with Lucie Safarova being responsible for the most carnage. Tops on the slaying list:

Safarova: 25
Dulko: 10
Loit: 9
Chakvetadze: 3
Glatch: 3
Kvitova: 3

Also taking out some SPers this time around are Yan, Wozniak, Tosic, Knapp and Erakovic.

So from our initial 268, we are at 209 going in to Day 2.

Moose
08-26-2008, 10:21 AM
Day 2 begins at 200, as we lose 8 players due to non-picks (and miscounted by 1 the Dulko count from yesterday).

We're allready down an additional 13, due to Tammy T's loss, making our count 187. The Szavay bandwagon is successfully through, as are the many Pennetta pickers.

Do I really see 12 Alona Bondarenko pickers here?

Lesson for USO seems to be: avoid picking either for or against American players. Either way they're giving TATers the shaft.

(Maybe I should change my pick away from Roddick ... nah, no way he loses 1R, right?)

Moose

We have one player waiting on Mauresmo...but needless to say, Day 2 proved to be an outright disaster for our players.

Accounting for some non-pickers, we started play at 11:00 this morning with 200 players remaining in the Womens game. Then Casey heard that Target was having a sale, and decided to take advantage of the weak dollar by rushing out of the tournament, and off to Paramus dropped two tough sets, taking out 54 players.

Adding to the blood,Tammy Tanasugarn reminded us that, outside of grass courts, there's not a whole lot cheery about her play. Buh bye, 13 players.

Not to be outdone, Ginnie Razzano lost to Timea "Baby Got Bac"-sinszky, and 7 more players got rapped out of the game. Toss in two Oudin (but props to Beau and Kandi for picking her), and one Gorgeous Goerges (same to Matteo), and here we stand, after the first round, with 119 players remaining. Eek!

beaujarkko
08-26-2008, 07:10 PM
Thanks for the props. I'm not altogether too upset about being out of the pool. I think my pick of Oudin was some carryover from my patriotism at the Olympics this year. It's too bad she lost, though. I couldn't have even told you where her opponent was from had I not seen it.

The breakdown on today's selections:

No one true bandwagon today, instead a lot of Minicoopers.

24: Schiavone (today's top pick. Hold on tight, everyone)
21: Wozniacki (Suliso would have told you to save her for later!)
18: Srebotnik (another day of nailbiting for this group)
14: Bartoli: (as JT Continental said, "God Bless you all")
11: Azarenka (could she be the wildcard again?)
5: Li Na....3: Na Li

Also picks for Zvonareva, Schnyder, Makarova and Paszek.

I'm so miffed that I'm out of the pool because Srebotnik, I thought, was the easy choice today. Going into today, Meusburger had only won one game against Srebotnik in two meetings in the past year. You don't get many sure bets in this game, but that sure looked like as much of a sure bet as it gets.

We come to the end of day 3 with over 2/3 of our starting players allready eliminated. From a beginning number of 268 players, we are now down to 86.

Only 3 picks lost today...Schiavone, Zvonareva and Paszek. But those three took out 30 players today.

Can we keep it above 50 by the end of the 2nd round of the Open? Tune in tomorrow. And watch out for the #1 pick of the day, because for the last two days they have lost.

You know it's a nutty event when you're successful in getting to Day 5 of the Suicide Pool by picking #141 in the world.

And when someone chose the #1 player in the world as a 2nd round pick.

And they may not even get through :D

True especially if that person is ALG. If so, I move on to Friday.

Which kinda makes me LOL.

Sorry :o.

We're through the 2nd round (no one has Serena or Vesnina tonight).

We are down to 64 players. That mean 204 hae been eliminated since the game began...over 75% of all the players in this years USOSP.

P.S. Too bad about Kohli going out already... (That is him in your avatar and sig, isn't it?)

and I find it sad, in a hilarious sort of way. Sigh. Thought this was the last round I could safely use her. Should have stuck with my instincts and gone Serena, Venus, or Aggie R.

Go get 'em, magnificent 64!

Yes, it's Philipp, FourTeller. IT's okay. 2009 will be here soon, and hopefully he will be healthy for a whole season.

And we're down to 23 (half of yesterday's total) still alive in both pools. Vaidisova took out more than half of the folks who were still in both.

MMazzeo Rezai - Govortsova - Li Na - Groenefeld - Na Li

If you're there watch out. Despite name inversion you're flirting with a double pick.

Actually,
It looks like there's an error in the picks/results thread. mmazzeo has chosen Schnyder today, not Li from what I can see.

I didn't get an exact count, so this is not canonical, but looks like just under 30 Li pickers are through, 3 Dementievas are through. 2 Kuznetsova pickers are in trouble as she dropped the first set. There are just under 20 Schnyders, too. The rest appear to be split between Bammer, Perebiynis (who play each other, so at least one will be eliminated as a result) and 1 for Azarenka. There also appear to be 2 no-picks.

So unless Patty Schnyder loses, today will be very low on the bloodbath-scale.

After Day Six, we're down to 13 left in both pools:

Abbey
AnneP
Bartman
Dolphins
Elenas
Gacorey1
Glarange
Jack
Last_Neuron
Led14pa2
Mikeman
Tenor777
Vlad

Congrats to the superior picking talents of this crew! And good luck ... don't think anyone has ever won both pools in the same tourney, have they?

You're joking right...I better check the Day 7 thread to make sure...

And a few Schynders and Srebotniks too...maybe I should be happy to be out since it seems ALL of you are crazy now!

No Williams picks yet...everyone hedging their bets and saving both I'd guess!

I just looked at the tournament schedule, and it looks like the QF is played over two days. Is that still accurate?

So that would mean that we have 5 picks left to make to beat the draw. (R16, QF, QF, SF, F)

Going to lock this thread now, because I'm afraid people may get confused if it stays open. Our remaining 9 players will now share the honor of making it to an Update thread, and we can continue the commentary there.
