Talk about your picks. Talk about your strategy. Hate on the losers you picked. Lick your wounds. Whatever you want to discuss related to THRNY, feel free to do it here!

And again... Good luck!

Wanted to get everything going this past weekend but then I got a little busy stressing out over matches. :o It's probably better this way because the player categories and prices are based on the rankings that were released just this morning! :cheesy:

I have to find my song for the lounge from last year...

GVGirl
07-07-2008, 12:25 PM
I found it:

To the tune of the Beatles "Hard Day’s Night"
Feel free to come up with additional verses!

It’s time for hard court life
The ATP is working like a dog
It’s time for hard court life
Even Serena will do a blog
But when the day is though
US Open series will get to you
But they will feel alright…

You know we serve all day
To get the money to buy some things
We practice all day
Just to get in those extra swings
But when the day is though
US Open series will get to you
But they will feel alright…

I was just looking at the posted teams. The Americans are getting a lot of love!

Roddick, Blake, Isner, and Young are getting picked by almost all of the people who've posted a team so far.

It's too bad. I was hoping to be the only one to notice that they'll probably play a lot in the US OPEN SERIES.

That was my thought too.

Anyone else think they've found a diamond in the rough?

I'm pondering Hyung-Taik Lee in the C section (:p).

Safin and/or Lopez might turn out to be good Bers.

I don't know why I'm going with Mahut. He's not a very good player. He's not a diamond in the rough, he's a dandelion in a field of weeds.

LOL.

I think the hardest category to choose is the Cs. I have a "short list" now in every section. It's players who I might pick. A lot of it depends on the Indianapolis draw and random whims. My short list for A is at 6, B is 6, and D is 7. My C "short" list is at 13. I just don't know who might do well! How annoying.

lukeorion

The C list was definitely hard to choose. I think its because of all the clay court specialists in that section who aren't really famous for doing too well on hard courts.

A new A.D.A.M. anthem?

Maybe this time, we'll be lucky,
Maybe this time he'll stay away,
Maybe this time, for the first time,
Those medals will come our way

Though he's gonna hold fast
We'll be home at last,
Not a loser anymore
Like the first time, and that time before

Everybody loves a winner
So nobody loves us
Mr. Peaceful, Mrs. Happy
That's what we want to be

All of the odds are, not in our favor
But something's bound to begin
It's gotta happen, happen SOMETIME
Maybe this time, we're gonna win!

Everybody loves a winner
But nobody loves us
Mrs. Peaceful, Mr. Happy
That's what we want to be

All of the odds are not in our favor,
But something's bound to begin,
It's gotta happen, happen SOMETIME
Maybe this time,
Maybe THIS time Dry won't win!

I thought 150 credits was more than enough to come up with a winning team.....no can do. The only way is to....pick a lesser player in A group or B group that....I don't want on my team!

Why does this have to be so difficult? Time consuming? Oh just kill me now!!

And....if I say something really really really (how redundant can ya get?) about you, will you give me 6 extra credits? 150 credits just isn't enough!

Please Dry, look at all those medals you have!

First of all, welcome Missin to ADAM!!! Every person is important to us.
And following you request you gave me an idea that ADAM will pursue.

Handicap points for the less advantaged medal-wise. For example Sauron Dry -with his 11 medals- plays with 150 points, or less. And us, the rest of the mortals, that squabble and jump through hoops of fire for one measly medal get some nice handicap points based on our "medalness".

Now your little speech (with all them medals in your box) about having never "WON" fantasy tennis.....reminds me of ....

Ms. Surya Bonaly....the lovely French Figure Skater famous for landing those back flips on one blade.....the year she actually placed....2nd in the Olympics (think it was 1994) and she thought she had the gold medal....and refused to wear the silver medal (after refusing to get on the darn podium) because she thought she deserved the gold.....

Rather than appreciating the silver.....she coveted the gold....eventually...that attitude was her downfall.............

ADAM is working in fullllllll force! Keep coveting Dry, keep coveting!

BTW...I need to go look at your team and compare it to mine. I want to be as close to one of the winning team as possible.....

Everyone, I just went through the "Post Your Team Here" thread and made some corrections to credit totals, etc. Minor stuff.

Please check your team to see if any corrections were made.

Even if you've already posted your team, you are completely free to change it before the start of play in Indianapolis. I just can't guarantee at this point that I'll have time to find any errors and notify you of them.

If you haven't yet posted your team, please make sure what you post is correct. If you exceed the credit limit or you use too many players from one category, your team will not be accepted.

Good luck! And get those teams in!

Soon! We will be able to change the twisted rules that have permitted for The Lord of the Medals to rise and bring equalty and fairness to all!!!

But I can't be considered a true and real #1 because I've never won a fantasy contest. Hell, on the fantasy rankings, I'm not even close to #1. Comparitive to tennis, I've made some major finals and semis, but I haven't won one yet. So I'm really just another Elena Dementieva. ;)

Frank is a bit erratic but again, being Canadian, I cheer for him. I suppose I could go for Frederic Niemeyer but he doesn't qualify enough to make that worthwhile.

Players that screw me over in pools tend to be Gasquet and Nalbandian. After the Wimby SP, I'll now be reluctant to pick Tipsarevic.

Well,

it was definitely a coin toss for Dancevic-Reynolds.

Since Frank was a finalist in Indy last year, the loss should drop him to about #120.

I'll hold onto him for Toronto but will definitely drop him after that. I'll be at the Toronto tournament for the Tuesday/Wednesday and I'll make sure to go see Frank if he's still around. They usually put him on Centre Court.

The only time I've seen him play was 2004 when he was spanked by Ain't Afraid of Ya. He is pretty mediocre unless playing Del Potro who he beat 3 times last year.

This is probably more than anyone's ever typed about Dancevic so I'll stop now.

I can't complain about yesterday's results from a pool point of view. Having Ginepri and Dancevic, I had no expectations but two nice wins.

I'm going to the day and evening sessions today.

Despite having Djokovic in my pool with expectations of him going far, I'll still be cheering pretty hard for Frankie.

Lots of decent matches today. I think I'll choose Haas/Moya over Simon/Young but I'm not sure.

Only definites are Dancevic/Djokovic and Safin/Querrey. The rest will depend on timing. For sure, I won't be prioritizing Polansky/Levine.

I'm expecting a series of rain delays. The sky doesn't look great.

I'm very excited.

Same predicament here! :wall: But let's hope Kohlschreiber turn things around in Cincy or even in the Olympics. Had no choice but to replace Simon who's a "10" with a "9" to have room for Djokovic and my choice was between Kohlschreiber and Keifer. The latter has a good draw but was coming from an injury last week, so I chose the former like you did. Wrong move for the week, but hopefully it'd be good in the long run.

I agree. Fed was just off. Kohlschreiber was soundly thrashed by a qualifier. Mind you, in the 15 minutes I glimpsed at that match Kudryavtsev was pounding the ball. He definitely played better than Kohlschreiber.

I hope Fed recovers a positive attitude. He seemed to have no joy in Toronto. He looked very down for the whole match with little fist pumping, smiling etc.

I'm keeping Fed for Cincy and not going to pick up Kohlschreiber. I'm definitely going to keep the Simon train moving. Simon was a total fluke pick for me more based on the fact that he was the #2 seed in Indy and seemed to be playing a lot of the events.

I have the question of whether to add Fed to my team, in replacement for either Nadal or Djokovic. (If one of them wants to bow out of Cincy for any reason, I'd be okay with that ;)) I picked Simon because he was going to get direct entry into most tournaments and I've always liked his game a lot. I have to admit two things: I'd never expected him to do as well as he has (who did?); and, I'm really glad that he's gotten a lot of TV coverage so I could see him play more. I also got to see him live against Donald Young in what had the makings of an intriguing match-- for the first three games-- before Simon just annihilated him.

I'm angry with James Blake. If he'd won, I'd be 2/2 with semifinalists (and I still have Novak and Nadal on my team, who play tonight). Now I have to hope that Mr. 69 doesn't end the cute Frenchman's run.

I feel the same. If I dump one of those two, who bowed out early here, they'll prove me wrong in Cincy, where they'll be rested and Rafa more tired.
What to do? What to do?
I have to do something ASAP because my team is tanking this contest. For starters I have to look at a Baghdatis replacement.

Does anyone know of a good way to get a read on who's playing in Los Angeles and subsequent tournaments?

The LA website looks to have old information.

Also, does anyone know if Del Potro is injured? He didn't come to either Masters event after a couple of big tournament wins. He's listed for LA but again the info on the website appears to be old.

You have the tournament site in the "How it works thread". For updates look in the "Members Only" room. Ti-amie does an EXCELLENT job posting updates on the entry lists regularly. Each tournament has it's own thread. I use those threads which many times are more accurate than the official site.

Del Potro is not injured, not that I've heard of at least. He's resting after his post Wimby clay campaign.

I would not suggest Young. He's won matches at each of the last two tournaments and gotten us some points. He's in the lowest group, so any wins from there are appreciated.

I agree that Fed belongs there (pre-Olympics.) Picking him instead of Nadal immediately cost me any chance of winning this thing! (barring complete craziness.)

My personal nominee is Ancic. He was 0-1 and then got hurt and didn't play any more.

For the past few years, I've lived and died by my Do Not Pick list in suicide pools. I'm only just now realizing that I need the same thing for fantasy tennis.

Let's look at this analytically. There are 12 guys on my team. Let's rank them in degrees of uselessness.

12. Del Potro (he actually won a title, so we like him... for now)
11. Dancevic (rotten draw at Toronto did him in, can't blame him for that)
10. Djokovic (I think he made a semi? Or was it a quarter? Anyway, he still has a chance to rebound in Beijing)
9. Kiefer (he's overachieved nicely... and no one has filed a restraining order or assault charge)
8. Isner (how much can you really expect?)
7. Spadea (what a boob)
6. Fish (he made a semi, no? And then lost to a guy he beat the week before... early. Total nutcase and waste of space)
5. Verdasco (in all honestly, it was my own fault for putting him on the team in the first place... But he could have at least won a few matches. We hate him.)
4. Berdych (again, I must, in part, blame myself for putting someone on my team who has decided to shack up with "my rock garden is more intelligent than I am" Lucie Safarova.)
3. Federer (I'm only keeping him out of the #1 spot because he has a chance to redeam himself... Which will happen around the same time that Mike Huckabee becomes a Muslim)
2. Haas (I will never, EVER, under any circumstances put this lump o' nuthin' on a fantasy team again)

And the grand winner (drum roll please):

1. Feliciano Lopez. Yeah, I've got a finger for him. He can sit and spin on it. :flipoff:

10. Djokovic (I think he made a semi? Or was it a quarter? Anyway, he still has a chance to rebound in Beijing)

He made the Cincy final (beating Rafa!) and Murray beat him. Didn't he also make the Toronto semi and lose to Rafa? Not too bad, a semi and a final, and these days 1-1 against Rafa is nothing to sneeze at (ask the Roger fans!)

F-Lo is a worthy #1. And I don't say that ONLY because I have him on my team.
