Tiger Woods to miss rest of season with torn ligament

By DOUG FERGUSON, AP Golf Writer 19 minutes ago

Tiger Woods will miss the rest of the season because of surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left knee, an injury he has been dealing with the last 10 months despite winning nine of 12 tournaments.

Woods also said he suffered a double stress fracture of his left tibia while preparing to return to the PGA Tour last month, which forced him to miss the Memorial and was the source of his pain at Torrey Pines when he won the U.S. Open.

He had arthroscopic surgery April 15 to clean out cartilage in his left knee, bypassing ACL surgery with hopes it could get him through the 2008 season. But going 91 holes for his 14th career major made it impossible to play any longer.

“Now, it is clear that the right thing to do is to listen to my doctors, follow through with this surgery and focus my attention on rehabilitating my knee,” Woods said.

I think a lot of people were wondering how long, not "if", Tiger would be sidelined. Can't blame the guy for wanting to win, but this is a high price indeed. Hope he heals well :)

Reminds me of Venus's ab strained win against Kimmie at Wimbledon in 2003. Sure, you got the win. Was it worth what it did to your health? I always thought Venus was never the same after that match, and I fear the same for Tiger.

Gonna be watching a LOT less golf this year. Which, on the one hand, will make baby nelslus very happy.....

But, still.....

It was a great win for Tiger and as it turns out, even more remarkable than we realized. But as Moose said - at what cost?

Pain is nature's way of telling you that all is not well. The 18 extra holes were just too much.

I hope he bounces back. He's still young and strong.

Last year I lost my fantasy golf league because I played Tiger too often too early (and didn't have him for last two FedEx Cup events.) This year may be the reverse as I had used him the least in our league :(

All ye of little faith!

Tiger had surgery....stayed out for a while...came back...to win his 3rd US Open in a sudden death match.

I say....as long as he rests and gives his body time to heal.....his game will be fine. He will be back. He isn't finished with golf by a long long measure.
